Hello, I’m Luis Bandarra, a big fan of history, wine and technology. And more recently, a proud father of a baby girl. Living in the small and sunny country of Portugal.
Since around 2000, when I got my very own PC, turn into an advocate for Free and Open Source Software and the underlying philosophy. This as evolve through time but still a firm believer, albeit I take a more pragmatic aproach now.
I been using Linux (Debian) regulary since 2008 and since around 2019 change to BSD, look into FreeBSD but now I use OpenBSD for almost everything personal and some MacOS. Professionally is harder to run from Windows.
I like learn new things and take challenges, and found in software development a great way to keep myself on top of my likes, turn hobby into work, which isn’t that bad.
In college, programmed a bit in C++ and some Java, even Pascal. Now I’m again in college - on a break because of my growing baby - and learning more Java and C. Regular programmer for Web, I’m working with PHP and frameworks, with Javascript behind, I prefer backend because less contact with clients and their “things”.
I’m currently learning Go and plan for the future to learn Rust. I’ll increase my contact with C because I like systems programming and embedded systems. I’ll arrive there sometime, in the future.
I choose electrical engineering as a job after college but switch in 2019 to full time to be a software developer, during my time at a NGO. I changed to the IT department there and since them move around to experient other ways of work.
I’m currently entering a new challenge and let’s see how it goes.
